		<description>Yes, there has been research that has been done into taking satellites and using the solar energy they gather and converting it into microwave energy that can be beamed down to earth.

Tons of research has also been done on converting wave energy from the oceans into energy.  

And research has even been done into flying kite-like systems up into the jet stream to collect wind energy.
